In high school, I decided to get into journalism because I wanted to use my writing talent and curious nature to help people. ha ha good luck. You will be so good to them and your new mission. As I reflect here on how to close this chapter of 15 years of work for community newspapers, I realize how goodbye I am. It`s hard to say goodbye. Change is difficult. But if the last two years have taught us anything, it`s that life is too short and too precious not to do what your heart calls you to do. Thursday, 11. July – District Court Luncheon I`ve had incredible colleagues and an audience that appreciates our work, and I`m not saying that community journalism still doesn`t have a big impact on the community. I know The Smoky Mountain News makes a difference every day, but I`d be lying if I said I didn`t feel the pressure, burnout, and disillusionment of dealing with constant Holocaust deniers at every turn. The goal is to reduce child poverty and increase the number of people with affordable health insurance in West North Carolina by helping people register in the health insurance market and helping them file their taxes so they can take advantage of income and child tax credits available under the federal Economic Recovery Act. It has been difficult to accept that my personal values have changed and my professional goals have changed in a new direction. Being a journalist and being part of my community was so much a part of my identity that I didn`t know what would be left if it disappeared. Safe travels! Spare me your complaints. You are not a real journalist, but a social justice warrior posing as a journalist. Too much effort to do the work and research necessary to be honest and not propagate and distort facts and news to fit your narrative. It is a disgrace. Maybe this experience will be a lesson for you and you will do better in your next career. Only time will tell. Tuesday, June 4 – Visit to the Veterans Treatment Board with Kevin Rumley Over the past couple of years, I`ve done my personal work around that thought, and I`ve really re-evaluated who I am, who I want to be, and tried to align that with my values. I knew I wanted to be more involved in the issues that matter to me: social justice, equality, affordable housing, accessibility and quality of public education, and affordable health care. Even though I am no longer a journalist, rest assured that I will always be a writer and remain committed to serving my community in new ways.
