The thirteenth edition of the Manchester Legal Awards, held on 9 June at the prestigious Midland Hotel in central Manchester, paid tribute to the region`s many legal talents. “I really didn`t expect to win this award, but it`s humbling to have done it against an incredible list of finalists. When I spoke to the judges during my interview, they were really interested in hearing about the work I`ve done to understand trauma, both for the benefit of our clients and colleagues, and for our diverse approach to recruitment. I think this award on that basis shows how far the legal profession has come in assessing these priorities, and I`m very grateful to have been recognized in that way tonight. We also recorded our strongest year-over-year growth in new instructions – despite all the challenges of last year, we saw a 27% increase in new jobs, hiring and onboarding of additional skilled workers, and a 66% increase in unfinished work in the fiscal year ending April 1, 2021.
These prestigious awards recognise the achievements and hard work of legal teams in England and Wales, launched over 12 years ago by the Law Society and one of the firm`s highest honours. One of the big winners of the night was Deansgate-based defence lawyer Olliers Solicitors, who won a total of four awards. He said: “It is a great honour to receive this award. If you look at the kind of people who have received it in the past, there are some very big names in the Manchester barrister scene, so it`s a real honour and privilege to be in the same stadium as them. It`s my hometown, it`s my professional home, so it`s very special to get this recognition from my peers. You can`t do something like this alone, without that support, it just wouldn`t have been possible. The team had two wins that night. The awards were organised by the Manchester Law Society and judged by leading business leaders and organisations from the North West of the North West.
